The Ford Explorer is due for its next full redesign for the 2020 model year. According to Automotive News, the most notable change will be a new platform dubbed CD6. Unfortunately, we don't yet know what this will entail or what the next Explorer will look like.

The current model is based on a unibody platform shared with the Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT. This is a modified version of the same platform that underpins the Ford Taurus. Will the new vehicle keep its car-like ride and crossover appeal? This seems likely given recent trends. We should know more closer to launch.

At this point, the 2020 Ford Explorer is expected to debut sometime in 2019. Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
