Redesign Info

The Ford Focus will reportedly get its next full redesign for the 2018 model year. While no official specs have been released, the updated small car will most likely be built in Mexico after production shifts from the automaker's plant in Detroit.

At that time, Ford may choose to abandon the current 6-speed Powershift dual-clutch automatic in favor of something new, perhaps a CVT.

The automaker's dual-clutch system saw a rocky initial roll-out back in 2010 due in part to software and other technical problems. Ford has since resolved most of those issues, but the possibility of an alternative that helps meet fuel efficiency goals remains open.

Expect further information to emerge closer to launch.

Pricing & Release Date

Official pricing is still a long way off. For reference, the current Focus starts at $18,100 with destination for the baseline sedan and $19,890 in hatchback form. Prices extend up to $24,600 for the range-topping Titanium Hatchback.

Key competitors include the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, Chevrolet Cruze and Hyundai Elantra.

We currently expect a debut sometime in 2017. Check back for updates as they become available.
