Buick has seen something of a resurgence post-General Motors’ bankruptcy, but it’s been slipping a bit as of late. The automaker is hoping the completely redesigned 2018 Enclave crossover will help boost sales boasting a fresh look, a more powerful engine, a more upscale interior, more cargo room, and a new range-topping Avenir model.
The looks of the Enclave are totally new for 2018, as it will usher in a more premium appearance and drop about 400 pounds. The most striking changes to the 2018 Enclave’s appearance will be its new headlights, grille, and swoopier body lines. It truly looks like a premium crossover that’s ready to take on the latest competition.
Inside, the Enclave will not only get a more upscale look and feel, but it will also see its cargo room increase by 10 percent to 23.6 cubic feet with the seats up, 58 cubic feet with the third row folded, and 97.6 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded.
Making loading cargo easier, the second and third row fold nearly flat. There will also be an extra 3.1 cubic feet of room in the new 10-inch-deep underfloor storage bin. Additional sound isolation technology, like extra sealing, deadening materials, and active noise cancellation, will make the cabin quieter than the previous model.
As a near-luxury crossover, the 2018 Buick Enclave will come very well equipped. Its standard features will include SmartSlide Seats in the second row for easy third-row access, OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi, a frameless 8-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 10-speaker Bose audio system, and more.
Buyers looking for more features will be able to opt for the all-new Avenir model – Avenir is Buick’s luxurious sub-brand. The 2018 Enclave Avenir will come loaded to the gills with features like a programmable power liftgate, a three-dimensional grille, pearl nickel 20-inch wheels, a rear camera mirror, an 8-inch configurable instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, LED headlights and taillights, wireless smartphone charging, dual moonroofs, navigation, heated and ventilated seats. It’ll also have available adaptive cruise.
Under its hood, the Enclave will boast a 3.6-liter V6 with 302 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. This engine will pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission. As standard, the Enclave will come with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive will be an option. Towing will be quite impressive at up to 5,000 pounds with the optional towing package.
Safety in the current Enclave is decent, though it lacks an IIHS Top Safety Pick designation. For the 2018 model, we expect at least a Top Safety Pick rating or possibly a Top Safety Pick Plus honor. Available safety equipment will include adaptive cruise, automatic emergency braking, and a Teen Driver mode.
Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
