Take one sedan, raise the suspension and throw in standard all-wheel drive and you have the makings of the Volvo S60 Cross Country. A five-passenger sedan now in its second model year, it represents the second of three Volvo models endowed with the Cross Country treatment.
What's New for 2017
Sold in small quantities, the 2017 Volvo S60 Cross Country is back with one noteworthy change. The previous turbocharged five-cylinder engine is gone, replaced by a 2-liter four-cylinder engine. This change is part of a broader move where Volvo has eliminated its five- and six-cylinder engines for a family of four-cylinder engines.
Choosing Your Volvo S60 Cross Country
All 2017 Volvo S60 Cross Country models are powered by a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This model makes an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
Standard equipment includes heated side mirrors, 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, a front skid plate, and dual integrated tailpipes. The power front bucket seats provide lumbar support and are dressed in sport leather. Keyless entry, a tilt steering wheel, a power glass moonroof, and a Harman Kardon Premium Sound System are standard.
Two packages are available. A climate package ($1,500) brings in heated front and rear seats, a heated windshield, heated windshield wiper nozzles, and a heated steering wheel. A BLIS package ($925) adds a blind spot information system and cross traffic alert, front park assist, and lane change merge aid.
Volvo prices the 2017 S60 Cross Country from $45,195 (destination included). This is a mono-spec (or single trim level) model offering the equivalent of Platinum-level equipment from the rest of the S60 range.
That said, you can add the previously mentioned packages for further customization. You might also consider heated seats alone, a $500 option. On the accessories front, customers can choose a rear seat entertainment system ($2,170) featuring a pair of 8-inch touch screens and two players. A park assist camera with front blind view ($895), sport pedals ($190), and a dog harness ($110) are among the two dozen accessory items offered.
Besides the equipment already mentioned, aluminum metal inlays are standard. Wood or piano black inlays are a $400 option. A 3-spoke leather steering wheel with decorative inlays is included. Models are equipped with blonde and off-black leather sport seats. A leather shift knob, high-level interior illumination, and electronic climate control are included.
On the safety front, this model offers standard adaptive cruise control, emergency brake assist, hill descent control, hill start assist, active bending lights, and rear fog lights. A Sensus Connect wifi package is included with a complimentary six-month subscription.
Volvo includes almost everything when outfitting the 2017 S60 Cross Country. The climate package is a sensible upgrade for anyone living in the Snowbelt. The BLIS package extends this sedan’s already generous safety offerings further. Various accessories provide customization for those who want it.
